Batch hyperlinking in InDesign CC

New Here ,
Nov 12, 2013 Nov 12, 2013

I have 10 catalogs that have thousands of part numbers in each. I need to add a hyperlink to each and every part number in the 10 catalogs. Is there a way to script the hyperlinking process?

A number of scripts were written that create hyperlinks. A few of them are posted on this page in the hyperlinks section. You can find more scripts on web (e.g. adobe scripting forum, adobe exchange, etc.)

Kasyan,

Thanks for the help but I looked at the kyperlinks page of this link you sent me and all of them were for CS3 or older and did not work with CC and the Adobe Exchange was not much help.

Try to create Version 5.0 Scripts folder in the Scripts Panel folder, move the script into it and run the script from there. It should make an old script compatible with a newer version of InDesign.

I have a similar issue like Mike04101 has. I have three PDF catalogs that I created with in design and are available to to be downloaded from our website. My supervisor wants to have all of the part numbers in each catalog to be hyperlinked to their corresponding part numbers on our website. So the idea is if you see a light bulb on the pdf catalog, you can click the part number of the lightbulb and the hyperlink will take you to that lightbuld on our website where you can then purchase it. Is their a way to batch process individual part numbers to their individual website URLS?

It might be worthwhile emailing Indesign automatisering - automatiseret prepress og DTP and check if they are willing to update the Auto Hyperlink script they wrote for InDesign many years ago. It would do exactly what you are after. All you need is a tab delimited list of the part numbers and hyperlinks. (I've never used the script in the past, but I'm thinking it would be cool if a feature were added that allows us to locate the part numbers in the text based on character or paragraph style formatting for example.

I'll move this forum post to the scripting forum. Hopefully there'll be additional support for you there.

I updated the Auto hyperlink script back in 2009 and it still works in CC 2017. (Just tested)

Make sure you have the hyperlink character style in your document, otherwise it will throw an error.

Hi Kasyan,

This script is exactly what I need! I'm having some trouble with it and was hoping you could help. When I set it up it will link the first item I have in the text file perfectly but not any after that. Any ideas?

Thanks!

Monica

Bonjour monicam90436292,

Je suis curieux de savoir si vous avez perdu de la vitesse avec vote Indesign après l'insertion des HyperLien .

Merci à vous

Hi Monica,

To answer your question I need sample files -- indd + txt -- so I could test the script against them and figure out what goes wrong.

Probably you have stray anchor points in the document, or the 1st and 2nd columns are not separated with tab in the txt-file.

Regards,
Kasyan

Hi Kasyan,

It looks like you might have the key to a similar problem for me. I am trying to add a hyperlink to a product code in indesign CC ie.:

text is "1048"

i need a quick way (shortcut ideally) for editing it to become www.website.com/1048?textnumbertext/

therefore adding a web address at the start of the product code and then the remainder of the url after the product number. The url never changes for the product catalogue, just the product code.

Does this script fix that? The link (http://kasyan.ho.com.ua/auto_hyperlink.html ) is returning a file not found so i can't check it out for myself. Any ideas?

Thanks so much.

AJ

Hi there,

I had to rework the site because it became unmanageable with all scripts located in the root folder. The new location of the page is here.

If you can't find a script on my site any more, look for it in the Scripts sorted by categories section.

Hello Kasyan, any chance you have this script working and ready to download?

URL and domain doesn't exist anymore.

Many thanks if it is possible
