I have a cookbook of 87 facing pages, which I need to now format for the printer so that the pages print correctly. I sent the pdf file to the printer, he need the pages to be layed out to be cut in half .... or something like that...it was kind of greek to me.  I'm not quite sure how to go about this...I will greatly appreciate some help with this.... even to point me in the right direction to read or watch a tutorial.

Please show your pages pallet -

the question is: did you lay out each two-page spread as a single InDesign page, or are they separate pages viewed as spreads. If it's already separate pages, then all you need to do in Uncheck the Spreads box when you are exporting the pdf.

Here is a screen shot of my pages...The recipes for each section .... appetizers, beverages...etc  flow to the next page...but are broken for each section.

Does this answer your question...

Can you show a screen shot of your pages panel. What you've shown is a reduced view of the actual pages. The Pages Panel (you can find it under the Windows Menu if you don't have it already open) will show numbers beneath each page. It is unclear from the screen shot you've shown as to whether each spread is two separate pages or single pages with a line drawn down the middle.

Okay then you have the document set up correctly as individual pages. So now you can do as SJ said earlier and output your pdf as single pages for the printer. The Printer needs to be able to rearrange the pages as Printer Spreads from your Reader Spread version. It is also possible that what he (or she) is asking for is the original InDesign file for the same purpose.

Thanks Bill Silbert. I've shared it back to the printer's dropbox as individual pages.  I have my fingers crossed that he says he can work with it.  This is a church cookbook. I'm an artist not an editor or writer, so, the only time I use Indesign is when I do the Women's Fellowship booklet.  That guaranteed me as the "expert on printing matters"... lol.  Anyway...it will all work out in the end...somehow, someway.

I am so thankful for the Indesign community...having all my questions thus far...fabulous resource. I am indeed a happy camper for the community!

Thank you again... I may be sending up smoke signals again needing help!

he need the pages to be layed out to be cut in half

By "cut in half" do you mean the printer wants each page exported as a single page and not as a spread? It sounds like perhaps you activated Spreads during the export and he is asking for Pages. It's ok to ask the printer to explain this to you. It's part of their job.

Here, have a like for your italicized text. As a receiving party of such files -- made with the best intentions, but still by amateurs to the printing world --, I always try to clarify such issues to their fullest extent. (Also the reverse. If a professional experienced designer asks how much bleed we need, rather than "what is bleed" I make a point of thanking them for asking.)

Right? I've never worked with a printer who didn't bend over backwards to answer my questions on how to prepare and deliver a job. It saves both of us time and avoids the stress that comes with missing deadlines.
