Guide ,
Sep 01, 2017 Sep 01, 2017

Hello,

I would like to have my page numbers consecutive through out the book. I would like my page numbers display as 1 or 99, 2 of 99, 3 of 99.... Is there a way to do this? The of 99 could populated by a script, but I really would like InDesign to do this for me.

Any help with this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

P.

Thank you for your reply.

Does the last page number work in a book? I will try it later.

How did you mark the your answer as correct?

Hey

Nope it won't work in an Indb Book!

You can use cross-references to "mark" your last page.

Everything is explained here: https://indesignsecrets.com/type-the-page-number-book.php

ps: I did not mark my own answer as correct... I'm not so immodest ^^

Thank you for the tip.

I didn't think you would, must be a glitch with the forum software.

Vinny,

That's true that you totally know what "french arrogance" is and you're not personally especially arrogant, even if you're French!

Good point for you!

Obi...

Wasn't a glitch... A nice guy (French most probably^^) did mark it as correct.

That was kind of him, but maybe was a bit hasty.

As the original poster, you should be able to unmark it ^^

In each document, create a custom text variable and Insert an instance wherever it's needed. Then use script to set the value of that variable in each document to book's extent.

Hello Peter,

There was some thing nagging in the back of my mind that this had to be scripted.

Thanks all for your help.
