I can't locate the Book palette in CC2018. Since I compose books, this is fairly crucial.
Hi Emmy:
I think the links are helpful to make you aware of new features, but they won't troubleshoot this specific issue.
I work in books daily, and haven't experienced this, so let's continue to work through it together. After you open the .indb file the book panel should be visible. If you don't see it, the next step is to go to the Window menu and look at the very bottom of the menu. Is the book listed as open? What happens if you click on the book name in the Window menu? Was it hiding behind

Hi again, emmyezzell:
While working with books hasn't changed since CS6, a lot of other things have. You may find this link useful—InDesign CC new features | New modern and customizable UI—it briefly lists the major updates in versions 9–13, plus it links to the release notes for each version.

BarbBinder, thanks for responding. My puzzle is that when I open the indb
file, I can't see the Book palette anywhere. I can open the book files in
Finder, but that's hot the correct way to update and edit the book itself.
I'll try checking the links you suggest.

If that doesn't show it, let me know if you are Mac or Windows and exactly which operating system you are using. If Mac, I have one more idea, otherwise we are on to resetting preferences.

BarbBinder, very helpful, thanks. I'm running a new MacBook Pro, Mac OS Sierra, with a lot of new stuff to get used to since my very old one. I think that I'm actually going to work in InDesign 2014 since that's where my principle client is and we'll be more compatible. But you were right about looking at the bottom of the Windows menu.
I've been doing books since linotype--all the way through the evolution of desktop computers and PageMaker and Quark and so forth. Not quite ready to let go of it.
I'm recently retired and recovering from a knee replacement, hence the delay in responding to you. I'm very grateful.

Hi Emmy:
I'm sorry to hear about your knee (I've had substantial knee repairs after ski injuries—no replacements yet) and know how that recovery goes. But glad you are back and that you have found the missing book panel.
Enjoy exploring CC 2014 and come back if you have other questions down the road. We'll be here for you.
