Hi,
I had this working OK a while ago. When placing the text, I turn on Show import options for Word 2007, make sure endnotes and footnotes are selected. It only caught endnote #2. It missed #1, 3, and 4. It's adding a weird line break and symbol for 3 & 4.
Let me know if you'd like the Word file and how I can send it to you. thanks.
Please let me know if you know what's causing this. thanks

You could upload the Word file to a dropbox folder and then share the link here, if you want people to test it.
However, I'd try this:
1. Select all the text in the Word doc in Word, and scroll to the end.
2. Press Shift < Left Arrow so that the final paragraph return is NOT selected, but everything else is.
3. Edit > Copy
4. Create a new Word doc, and Edit > Paste
5. Save the new Word doc with a new name. Try placing that into InDesign.

Are you sure you mean you're using InDesign CC 2017?
The Endnote feature was introduced with InDesign CC 2018 (13.0) and updated in CC 2018.1 (13.1).

Endnotes should import from Word in Indesign 2017. I would check the endnotes in the Word document and make sure they are set up correctly.

Are you using a third-party product to handle endnotes? InDesign had no capability of importing endnotes until CC 2018.

Steve I'm not sure what you mean. I can import endnotes from Word in Indesign 2017.

I can import them in CS6

You're correct. InDesign CC 2017 and earlier can import endnotes statically, not dynamically like they are in InDesign CC 2018 and later.
There is no Endnote creating feature in CC 2017 like there is now.
I've never used the feature. I had to reference an article on footnotes and endnotes in InDesign Magazine to understand the distinction. Sorry for my error.

No problem Steve

Hi Steve,
I was just trying to bring them in statically. I am using InDesign CC2017. I'm not using any third-party. I'm just placing a Word 2017 file. Please let me know if there's a way I can send you the Word file. I'm really hoping we can figure this out. Thanks.

I’m not sure it’s worth troubleshooting with CC2017. It’s two versions out of date and you’re also using a very old version of Word.
First thing I’d try is to install CC2018 or 2019 and import the file there and see what happens.

If you still have no luck I would like to see the Word Doc to see if I can find the problem.
Click on my name for my email address.
