Is there any way for an interactive button to have a rollover effect for a Publish Online document?

Hi Diane, I have discovered the issue with my rollover effects in Publish Online. I used transparency opacity for the rollover effect to lighten the button for a rollover effect, and that does not seem to work with Publish Online documents. A rollover effect by changing to a lighter tint of the color will work. Thanks Diane.

And for this particular project, I used Bob's suggestion of triggering an animation, which was a better approach. The buttons were a grouping of different elements, and did not explain the call to action (go to URL). The rollover effect triggered a callout to assist the user. Thanks Bob.

Sure. Once you convert an object a button, in the button panel you'll see three options for Appearance. Normal is the state of the button when nothing is happening. Click Rollover, the format the button the way you want. As a simple example, if you want a black button to turn red when someone rolls over it, select the Rollover appearance, then set the fill of the button to red. Click back on Normal appearance when you're done so the button displays correctly.

Interestingly, the button doesn't even need to have an action applied. If you just need the rollover, no need to add an action.

Be sure an test in the EPUB Interactivity Preview panel. (Window > Interactive > EPUB Interactivity Preview)

Bear in mind that rollover has no meaning/effect on tablet devices. Only a mouse can rollover.

    Works beautifully in Publish Online.

    Hope that helps.

You’ve got to be careful with the use of transparency with Publish Online. Not everything is supported especially blend modes.

You could add an animation effect triggered by a rollover.
