Can only select one footnote at a time?

Is there any way to choose this page or all footnotes in this article?

Correct answer factoriaediciones

I dont know if this is what you need: Sometimes (almost always in old InDesign versions) you have footnote style in your file but when you bring the text from Word, the footnotes does not full apply, and you have this at the panel style: footnote+. If you want to clear and apply you can use an Script (byLFC_clear overrides__20210502_1357.jsxbin or https://github.com/grefel/clearOverrides/tree/master).

I've encountered this issue too. It seems we can only select one footnote at a time. Hopefully, there's a solution to select all footnotes at once or for specific pages.

No, you can't select more than one Footnote at a time.

What is the purpose, because you need this functionality? There might be another solution for the purpose you need it.

Hi @dublove:

Without details (in this case, you have yet to mention why you want to select all the footnotes), we are left to guess. Most people ask us this question because they don't use styles, and don't realize that they can control them all at once using a style created and assigned through Footnote Options, so of course, that's why we provided information on how to do it.

So what is it—exactly—that you are trying to do?

If styles are applied correctly to the footnotes and their cues, why would you want to select the footnotes on a page or a whole text?

That you can't select more than one footnotes is consistent with sections in InDesign: you can't have discontinuos selections. (I write 'consistent', not to be confused with 'desirable'.)

Thank you.
Sometimes it is necessary to clear the style overlay after selecting it.
Perhaps this is a feasible solution.

Here's a little more detail if the goal is to format all of the notes at once...

You will want to create the new paragraph style in Type > Document Footnote Options > Numbering & Formatting. When you choose New Paragraph Style from the Paragraph Style dropdown menu, InDesign will immediately assign the new style to all the footnotes in the document. I choose to format as blue so that you could see the formatting apply to all notes immediately, but of course choose whatever formatting you like!

Of course, I already have styles controlling the footnotes.

No, you can select only ONE footnote at a time.

If you want to change formatting - @James Gifford—NitroPress already provided solution - Char & ParaStyles.

It may not address your need, but if you correctly assign styles to the footnote elements, you can adjust them all from that single point.

Note also that you can adjust many global aspects from the Footnote Setup menu.

This answer is not very scientific.
Of course, I already have styles controlling the footnotes.

Hi,

Can you confirm the exact version of your software and operating system?

Can you include a screenshot and an explanation of what you are trying to achieve?
