Can't change button appearance

Hi

I am using the Interactive Block Layout Template (Adobe Stock Template) by Stefan Kovac -and I'm stuck

I need to change the button appearance and while I can open the buttons panel there doesn't seem to be an option to change the appearance.
I actually want to change it from a plain colour to an image but I can't even change the colour by using the colour panel or swatch.

i have followed instructions I've found online and on this forum and nothing seems to be working - driving me mad!

Anything help or advice is much appreciated

Lorraine

I think I know what you are trying to do with this template.

There are generic graphics that are currently placed in the thumbnail frame, and the frame for the larger version of image. The generic graphics are named like 3A_PLACEHOLDER.jpg. A method to replace generic image with your own would be to use the Links Panel. Select the generic image, and then right click to select "Relink all instances of 3A_PLACEHOLDER.jpg...  You will then be able to find your image and replace.

It appears as though the buttons in this template were elements (lines, frames, text) then converted to a button. I can change color, stroke width, etc. on the buttons. However, if I wanted to change an existing button to an image, I would have to recreate it.

Is there a specific button you need assistance in changing?

Hi Jeffrey,

if you like to use an image inside a button you could move the image in and then remove all the other stuff.

For all status of the button. You have to drag the image into a status like "Normal" using the Layers panel.

If the button is a frame, yes you could place an image. The template the OP is referring to has buttons that are strokes only. Thus the question to the OP: Is there a specific button within the Interactive Block Layout Template that you would like to modfify?

Hi Jeffrey,

in principle, every button state is a group. The concept of a group is a contaner frame that can exist until the group has only one member. And that gives us the opportunity to drop something on the page into that group. Be it some objects you grouped on the page, the state of a Multi State Object ( MSO ) or even the state of a button object.

With states of an MSO it's easy: The MSO panel provides the functionality.

Not so the Buttons panel.

So you have to do that in the Layers panel where you can drop objects into groups and move objects out of groups.

You have to be careful, that you do not move all objects out before moving the image frame in.

For buttons change the active state from "Normal" to something else if you want to drag objects to a different state.

Here a series of screenshots that is showing this:

To change the next state of the button you have to make it the active one.

If you click on the two ( now ) empty states the contents of the [Normal] state will be dupliacted immediately.

Add ( or remove ) objects as you like:

Or move them around:
