Can't move objects with arrow keys in Indesign.

For some reason I can no longer use my arrow keys to move objects in indesign. When I press the left, right, up, or down arrows the object dissapears. I can bring it back by hitting the opposite arrow.

Your version of InDesign and OS?

If it worked before, have you tried the steps in Reset InDesign Preferences and Other Troubleshooting ?

It sounds possible that the amount of distance that the arrow keys move objects got changed from its customary one point (.014 inches) to a much larger amount that is making objects go off of the pasteboard and thus seem to disappear. Check the amount that is set for the Cursor Key (the arrow keys) in the Units & Increments section of InDesign's preferences.

Hi there,

Sorry to hear about the trouble you are facing. This generally happens when the third-party application is interfering with InDesign. I would like to know if the steps suggested above by @Bill Silbert & @Peter Spier worked for you? If not, I would suggest you try running the app in Safe Mode (MacWindows). Then, open other applications one by one, which were opened before to find the culprit app or process with the help of the Task Manager or Activity monitor. In Safe Mode, your system starts to perform certain checks and prevent third-party software/ services from automatically loading or opening.

We will be looking forward to your response.

Thanks & Regards,

Anshul Saini
