Question

Can't place EPS. Can't open files with EPSes.

I can't open files with EPSes. It me an error that a plug in is missing but doesn't say the plugin and doesn't let me open the file to figure out the error.

When I create a new file, it won't place EPSs. Just turns the box into a text box.

Now I have hundreds of files I can't even open.

What's up with that?

Hi @GrumpyGraphics ,

just for testing reasons if the one EPS file is perhaps damaged:

Open the EPS with the Acrobat Distiller app and see if it can be converted to PDF.

If that fails post the error message you'll get with Distiller.

Is the EPS file placed and linked with the InDesign document?

Or was it embedded in the document after you or someone else placed it?

Check your Mac's Security & Privacy settings and make sure your Adobe apps are listed and checked in Full Disk access.

Do not use EPS in any way. Use PDF/X-4 instead.

It seems that the text frame uses the EPS code. InDesign does not see it as EPS file, but as text file.  Either something is wrong with the file header, or it is not a valid EPS file. But if you use PDF/X-4 instead, the problem is solved anyway.

Dude, I have thousands of EPS bar codes linked to files.

Try again.

And, no, it's not solved if I can't open the InDesign files.

What version of ID? What operating system? What is the exact error message?

ID 17.4. Mac OS 12.6. Everything up to date.

"Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application."

Some files are working. Some aren't. I tried to recreate this file that wouldn't open but ID would not import the EPS. Not sure if ID is just suddenly not supporting older versions of EPSes or what.

This is very aggrevating because we rely on UPC codes in EPS format. If some work and some won't, it would be nice to know how to fix this problem with the ones that aren't working. But I can't fix things if I can't even open the InDesign files.

One Drive and hard drive. Synced.

So, all of your files, including the links have cloud only turned off? Can I see a screenshot of the folders?
