Can't Remove Stroke on Text

We will "highlight" text in InDesign but stoking it with a particular color.

 

Previous versions of InDesign (I'm not sure when this problem started) would remove the stroke completely when the outline color was changed to None. Now though, searching and replacing stroked text to have no stroke color leaves a stroke override on the text. The stroke menu shows a zero for the stroke, BUT an override of whatever the stroke WAS, still shows.

 

Setting the stroke to zero in the search and replace (or setting it in the menu) STILL leaves an override of stoke zero.

 

I can't find a way to remove this stroke override with out removing all overrides which many times isn't an option. Am I missing something?

Have you compared settings in your Paragraph Style as well as any Character Style that might be applied to that text?

Barb: We mostly work with files created by other people so redfining styles is a bit scary because the files weren't, shall we say, created with the greatest of care to detail ;o) so it's difficult to say what else might get changed in doing so.

 

Mike: There are no characters styles involved in all the text I'm been testing. This problem occurs just doing a new document.

    Can't you just remove one and then redefine the style?

    I tried recreating your situation with InDesign 18.1 on Mac OS Monterey 12.6.2 using the method in the screenshot below. I had applied a fill and stroke of 100% Magenta to the text and then used the Find/Change parameters as shown. The result was that the stroke was removed and as you can see is reading as "None" in the Swatches Panel. If you used any other method to achieve this then try my suggestion. If this is the way that you did it then please provide exactly what you did, what version of InDesign and what OS you are using.

      Thanks for checking things out, Bill.

       

      The stroke menu shows 0, as you're seeing. But InDesign still shows an override on the paragraph style when you clicked in the text that was previously stroked.

       

      Upon further testing, the problem only seems to occur when you specify a stroke weight other than 1. 1 is the default InD uses when you simply apply a color to the outline, whether from the color pallete or through Find / Replace, it defaults to a 1pt stroke. If you specify a stroke weight other than 1, then search and replace that outline color to None, InD will still show an override in the size of the stroke weight. If you replace it with a zero stroke, it shows an override of stroke: 0.

       

      Which brings me back to my most important question: How the heck can we get rid of that override showing a stroke weight aside from removing ALL overrides.
