Question

Cannot export background color to PDF

I have tried everything from other similar postings including adding a rectangular box with the color I want.   The export worked fine in InDesign 2022.   When I upgraded to Indesign 2023 it stopped exporting properly.   I do not know what the difference between the two versions.  .   This file was created from a template.

Just to make sure: you did not use the colour [Paper] by any change and used that? The colour [Paper] is a not printing colour...

Is it only one file that behaves this way? If so, the file could have picked up some corruption. Try saving it as an IDML file: File > Save As > InDesign CS4 or Later [IDML]. Open the IDML file to see if the corruption has been fixed.

I went back to the original template file that I purchased and the file worked with previous versions of InDesign.  I got the same results with Indesign 2023 and 2024.

Can you upload a screenshot showing exactly what is happening? Please also show screenshots of the relevant sections of your Export to PDF dialog window. Additionally try double clicking on the layer in the Layers Panel that the background color is on. You will get the Layer Options dialog window. In there make sure that "Print Layer" is turned on (see screenshot below).

I verified the background layer is set to black and set to print.
