Certain dialogue boxes appear partially off screen and can't be moved back on screen

This issue was posted by a user on 9/17/254 in an InDesign-specific forum, which I cannot gain access to via login. User said: "Certain dialogue boxes appear partially off screen and can't be moved back on screen. For example, the Find/Change dialogue box and the Export dialogue box [specifically export to PDF (Print)] have both become almost unusable for me because important sections of those two boxes are located off screen. See attached screenshots. Dialogue boxes that allow you to expand them by clicking and dragging the edges/corners of the box are less of an issue - they often appear partially off screen, but once they're expanded at all, the whole dialogue box pops back into view. The Find/Change and Export dialogues do not allow this kind of expansion so that trick does not work for them. I've tried all the fixes that I've seen suggested for this issue online, including restarting my computer and changing the resolution of my displays, but none have worked. I've even updated to Windows 11 and that didn't fix it. I am using InDesign 2024 version 19.5 on Creative Cloud Desktop. There are currently no updates available for InDesign."

MY SIMILAR QUESTION as it relates to the "missing font" dialogue box (submitting 3/3/25, having had this issue for better than a month): I'm having this same issue (dialogue box is partially off-screen) with the "missing fonts" pop-up dialogue box both when initially opening an .indd file and when selecting "Find/Replace Font" under the "Type" menu—all I can do is "escape" and go forward with manually replacing fonts. This issue persists after at least two software updates. Switching back and forth between displays, mirroring and extending, minimizing the application window, following www guidance on how to move/nudge the dialogue box all result in NO resolution. What am I missing? This has been driving me batty for more than a month!! Also no .indd updates currently avialable.

Hi @Service1FCU,

Could you share your exact InDesign version and the Windows 11 build you’re currently on? You can check it by opening Command Prompt and typing msinfo32, then take a screenshot of the window that appears.

Since you're using a second screen, does the issue disappear when you disconnect it? Some users have reported similar issues when working with external monitors.

In the meantime, check out this thread: InDesign selection tool not working and let me know if it helps!

Looking forward to your update.

Hello @Abhishek Rao ,

Thank you for replying with guidance. My system setup is:
OS Name = Microsoft Windows 10 Business

System Mfr/Mode/Type = Dell Latitiude 5501, x64-based PC (laptop)

The problem persists both when there is/is not an external monitor connected; the dialogue box is cut off in the same manner/area as on on the integrated machine monitor.

Hi @Service1FCU,

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! I appreciate you sharing your system details. Just to confirm, are you still on InDesign 19.5 and experiencing the issue? If so, could you try resetting your preferences to see if that helps? Ref: Reset InDesign Preferences. Make sure to backup your preferences before resetting (check the article).

Additionally, could you check and confirm the scaling percentage set in your Windows Display settings

If the issue persists, I’d recommend updating to InDesign 20.2 and testing if the problem continues. Let me know how it goes.

Thank you for the guidance. An application update resolved the issue. NOW the issue is exporting PDFs!
