Change Dictionary Language in InDesign

New Here ,
Jan 15, 2020 Jan 15, 2020

I have my InDesign preferences set up to use USA English, including the dictionary. But when I run Spell Check, it shows it is using the UK English to check spelling. How do I change the languate to USA English in the Spell Check window? It is flagging words as incorrect that are spelled correctly according to USA English.

Thanks,

Paul Trivilino

Hi Paul:

InDesign is using the dictionary assigned to the actual text. Select the text and set the language to US English from the bottom of the Character panel.

Thanks Barb! you're a star 🙂

p.s. this has been driving me crazy. I've been selecting English UK in the spell check panel and in prefs but couldn't get it to shift from French (I work in lots of languages and used a French artwork as a base for another). Thanks again.

Best,
Lee

The language of the actual text is relevant. Use Paragraph Style for the main language. If you have words and sentences in another language, create a Chsracter Style for that language and use them for the exceptions.

Never work without styles.
