Changes made to linked images don't appear in InDesign layout

I'm making changes to an image (in Illustrator) and when I re-link the image in InDesign the changes aren't showing in InDesign, can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong please?

Correct answer jane-e

In InDesign, go to the Links panel and update the link. Next time, start the edit from inside InDesign by right-clicking the image and choosing Edit With > Illustrator, then make your changes, save and close the Illustrator file. The update will happen immediately.

Also, if there is not a yellow or red triangle in the Links panel, then check the name of the Illustrator file InDesign is looking for and the one you made the changes to. Possibly you renamed it and need to Place the new version.

Post a screen shot of the Links panel if you don't see it.

Since your question is about Illustrator and InDesign, I'll move this from the Photoshop forum.

Thanks Jane, I did not know about the Edit With option, fab, I'll give that a go, thanks so much.

And thanks for moving my post to the correct place, it's not always clear when posting where it's going to post to.

You're welcome, Miss Sparkles.

Also, I don't think c_pfaffenbichler intended any aggression, and I don't see it in his post. He is not an ACP or moderator and can't move threads, but is a volunteer who is extremely helpful and kind on the Photoshop forum. He was just letting you know that you had posted to the wrong place.

I agree, it's not always clear, and moderators can move posts when needed. If you go to the landing page, you can see a listing of all the forums and do a search at the top.

If there is still and issue, give us the screen shot of your Links panel.

First off: You are apparently posting on the wrong Forum.

This is the Photoshop Forum and neither the Indesign nor the Illustrator Forum.

So you may want to post on the correct Forum and provide the files in question or at least meaningful screenshots to illustrate the issue.

I suspect one possible reason for such behaviour might be Object > Object Layer Options.

Christoph, just for an FYI, Object > Layer Options in InDesign is for hiding and showing layers or layer comps after a layered file has been placed. 😊

I know.

But if a file has the same Layers pre- and post-updating and the one of them containing the change has been hidden previously the change might not become visible in Indesign.
