Character stlye not behaving

Why is it a whit underline if the color I chose is different?

Is the character style actually applied to the text you are showing? Does the base paragraph style have a "+" at the end of the style name?

In the screeshot is the text selected? If so, the color would be inverted.

I think that it is because the text is still selected. What happens if you deselect it?
