Character Style Group Problem

Hy,

In an existing template I want to create a Character Style Group. And it does not allow me to do that, saiyng that the Group does exist. But I can not see it. Maybe at some moment there was such a group but there is no more. Still I can not create it again. Because of a script that I can not change I need this group.. How can I solve this problem?

Thank you,

Dan

Try please to create a group named "Bold". This is where to problem  apear. And I need it so named.

Dan

You have a style named "Bold". That's what is causing the conflict.

Either rename the style or rename the group. For example: Bold Group

(Granted the warning dialog box leaves something to be desired.)

Hi Dan,

thank you very much for that question!

It seems that I never attempted to name a style group like a style that already existed.

Tried that and also failed with a rather strange warning that the style group's name already exists.

Which obviously was wrong with my test.

The error message in my German InDesign was:

"Es gibt bereits eine Formatgruppe mit diesem Namen."

When I try the same by using ExtendScript I get error 522, $ID/StyleSetNameAlreadyExistsError.

Thank you again for bringing up this issue!

Yes, I see. Sorry.

It is the first time that I try that on this forum. I did probably something wrog.

I tried again with drag & drop and also with browse files to attach but it does not work. When I push "Post" nothing hapens.

I managed to insert a picture of the Character Style Pasnel.

Try the .indd file instead

Or perhaps share a screen shot of your Character Styles panel, elongated to show all of the listed styles and groups?

If a document is not behaving well then try

File>Export

Choose IDML

Open the IDML in InDesign
Save the file as a new InDesign file with a new name
See if the issue persists.

Hy,

I already tried that but with no result. I also tried to import the group from another document in the ideea that the group will become visible but the only result was a group with "-copy" in the name. I did this in both InDesign CC2019 and CC2022.

Can you upload the document after cleaning out any sensitive info?
