Hey everyone,
I've tried to do some research on this, but I'm not finding much that is very helpful.
I'm currently typesetting a beginner's Chinese textbook designed for English speakers, and the author wanted to make use of ruby text above characters to help students have easy access to the pronunciation of each character.
I went ahead and changed my InDesign version to Chinese-which should not be a thing Adobe; if MS Word can have Ruby text, you should too, but I digress.
This gives me the option to do Ruby>Ruby... in the character panel, but no matter what setting I use, the Ruby Text will not appear. I've seen people say that using the Japanese Paragraph Composer resolved this problem for them, but there isn't a Chinese Paragraph Composer that I'm seeing? And also, it worries me because this document is both in English and Chinese, so I don't want to limit it to just Chinese.
Any tips?

Have you tried, for very limited amounts of text:
Preferences > Advance Text Options > Use Inline Input for Non-Latin Text

This was already checked, and I tried unchecking it to no avail. Still no visible ruby text, unfortunately.

Have you chosen the Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer from the Control panel flyout menu (or the Paragraph panel flyout menu)?

Hi Steve,
I think, that the Japanese Paragraph Composer is the way to go.
It should be there.
Even with my German InDesign CS6 it is available, but only by scripting.
Select some text and run this little ExtendScript (JavaScript) code snippet to apply it to all paragraphs selected:
app.selection[0].composer = "$ID/HL Composer J";
Or another one for the Single Line Japanese Composer:
app.selection[0].composer = "$ID/HL Single J";
Regards,
Uwe
