Chinese UI translaion mistaken 连字 for hyphenation when it should be 断字

I tried ID on a friend's computer for like 5 minutes and gave up over this problem (and a failed attemption of switching UI language)

This bug is just, incredibly ridiculous. 连(connection)字 is ligature, 断(break)字 is hyphenation. (The misunderstanging probably cause by the character "hyphen (-)" is called 连字符 in chinese)

I get it that most Chinese UI users don't need those functions, yet it's still so confusing how an international software can have such idotic performance for multi-language users.

I didn't use it any further but I'm afraid it's not the only problem.

I know nothing about Oriental languages, but hyphenation is controled by the language assigned to text at the character level (usually as part of a defined Paragraph Style, but can be assigned locally to selected text for use qwith "foreign" words).

Many Indesign users mistakenly belive they are assigning a language by using the Dictionary setting in preferences, but this in fact only makes a choice of which dictionary to use for any particular language if more than one dictionary is available. Did you have the correct Chinese language assigned to the text?

Please don't reply If you don't know anything. Chinese text does NOT need hyphenation at all. Of course I was talking about an Indo-European language!

It's simply my friend set her language in Chinese, So I use Chinese UI because it's impossible to switch UI language without reinstall the software.

My main question is the horrible UI translation. Chinese language doesn't need hypenation is not an adquate excuse to assume nobody might use Chinese UI to try typesetting an language needs hypenation.

P.S. Just so you know, I was trying to typset English text. Downloaded the first chapter of Pride and Prejudice as a testrun. Didn't even use Lorem Ipsum.

It was a Total failure.

I enabled hypenation (took me a while to find it because of the stupid translation), set dictionary into en_uk, and changed typesetter into this "Adobe International Paragraph Typesetter" (more or less, didn't get its English name).

I changed every set I could find, and still, no hyphenation.

Again, chossing a dictionary is NOT assigning a language to your text. Language is a character level attribute set in the paragraph style (always) and ocaasionally assigned as an override to selected text for words that are in a different language from the rest of the paragraph.

I'm a Windows user so cannot speak to changing the UI laguage settings for Mac, but on windows it's actually relatively simple to do with a registry edit. You can google how to do it -- it has been discussed more than once here on the forum, I'm sure.

It is also possible to install a SECOND instance of InDesign using different regional settings along side the version you currently have. You will find instructions for that here on the forum as well if you take the time to look.

why is this so hard for you to understand my post is mainly about THE UI HAS A STUPID MISTAKE... The Hyphenation setting in paragraph style is one of the places where THE MISTAKE APPEARED.

BTW, I did try a solution from this forum to change UI language by changing the name of folder in "../Presets/InDesign Shortcut Sets", and the result is like a joke. When I opened a pre-created file, the UI had no text at all, just some blank windows; and when I tried to creat a new file, it didn't even appear.
