Clipping Path InDesign issue

Hello

For the last several weeks we have problems with image clipping paths that doesn't appear in InDesign.

It seems only to occur with Adobe CC Indesign files/packages we receive from costumers ore other companies. The image format is not relevant i tested it with diffirent formats (JPG, PSD, Tiff,..)

The IDML file in the package however works fine (?) but when i open the original CC Indesign file, all images lost there clipping path. When i relocate the "Link" folder and then relink all the missing images to the new location then the image is properly displayed with clipping path.

Any ideas or is this a bug?

Hi Gerrit-Jan,

if you open an IDML file with InDesign the document is rebuilt from scratch using the XML inside the IDML container.

And that principally takes longer than to open a "usual" document.

Ok. But what can we do with the issue of packaging?
For now I think you could test, if it is working as expected in previous versions of InDesign like CC 2019 or CC 2018.

And after that you could write a bug report at:

Sorry. Currently I cannot offer much more.

Thank you and i shall test it with an older version. The logo shows that our customer works with an older InDesign version under Windows.

Hi, I'm having a similar problem > I'm relinking to a copy of the links folder, but in another place, and my images loose their clipping path too. Working on Indd 2022 by now.

Is there any progress on this issue? Is this a bug? Still not fixed...?

Thanks Gerrit-Jan,

could you double-check if you open the packaged InDesign document if an individual link of a placed graphic leads to the Links folder of the package?

That's a very peculiar issue you have with clipping paths.

Maybe you discovered a bug.

What's your exact version of InDesign?
What's your operating system's version?

I copied the path of different images in a txt file, just to be sure, for comparison. From both files they all link to the same folder. It strikes me that the IDML takes much longer to open and i guess because it's relinking the images. Because when you relink the INDD manually the clipping path is applied.

Open the document in InDesign, then have a look at its Document Info in the information dialog that you get when you hold down Cmd+Option, then use the menu InDesign CC >> About InDesign ...

The Document Info is the bottom left section. When you scroll around there, you see details of the InDesign versions used to create and modify the document, down to the build number.

Please tell us any differences to your version, especially if you can make out the one used to place the images.

Hi Gerrit-Jan,

can you tell how exactly the package is done?

Are all placed and linked graphics redirected to the Links folder with the package?

Hi Uwe

Yes, when i open the IDML or the INDD, they are both linked to the same image folder and nothing is missing or needs to be updated. Is that what you mean? See also screendumps.
