Color swatch greyed out for Text and fill

My swatch menu is greyed out at the top. Help!! I am in Dell computer for this...

What exactly do you've selected - and how - can you post a screenshot?

I selected the box and its still greyed out ( see highlighted area in the swatch panel) so I dont know if I am filling in the box with color or the text.

That's great. 

Most often Macs are affected and need resetting preferences - PCs are very rare to get corrupted. 

So, just in case, how often are you doing Save As with a new name on your documents?

Quite a few times as we use the same file but change the design every couple of years for the project. THanks so much!!

If you work a lot on the same file - you should do Save As with a new name more often than every couple of years 😉
