Hi
I'm working on a textbook. It's got Units 1-4, and then each unit has Classes 1-4.
I'd like to set up a folio that reflects both what Unit we're in, and what Class. I know I can set up a master page with a Unit X and Class X and manually update the Unit and Class on each individual page. I know I can set up 16 different Master Pages, and apply them to groups of pages (ie a Master Page for Unit 1 Class 1, another one for Unit 1 Class 2 etc).
But is there some way to set up the folios so that they somehow work automatically? I should add, there are also page number folios throughout the book, and they've be proceeding consecutively throughout as usual. It's the Unit and Class section numbering that I'd like to automate if possible.
cheers,
Kurt

You would setup 4 Master Pages. One for each unit. Then you would setup your "Classes" as Chapters. So your book would have Unit 1 - Class 3 (Master Page - Chapter). This tutorial should give you what you need to set this up. If you get stuck, feel free to add another reply to this post.

Hi
I take it that one would use the 'Book' feature for this to work, right? ie it seems like the chapter auto-numbering thing only kicks in when you have separate documents for each chapter and you combine them as a book. Is that right?
at first i was pretty confused -- the Adobe help page says that one could have no more than one chapter per document. And I was thinking....well how can you have auto-numbering of chapters if there's always only one chapter?
thanks!
Kurt
