Complicated Numbering Automation

Hi everyone. I am looking for an automated way of printing from Indesign a set of individually numbered notebooks. Now, this is complex - the job is 120 pages, double sided. Each book has a number printed on the cover and (the same number as the cover) on 70 of the 120 pages. The next book will have the next sequential number printed through it. Then, the books are 8 up on SRA3. We have figured out a way of manipulating the CSV file to allow us to position the cursor in indesign at the start of the first number, highlighting to the 8th number to delete them (via a long winded and complex text box thread) to introduce the next set of eight sequential numbers - are you keeping up? However, everytime we want to print a set, you have to delete the numbers, command p, let the print process complete, then delete the 8 numbers, command p etc etc etc. The issue is, there are 5000 books, so 625 sets of 8 - so 625 times we have to delete and print. It takes ages. Does anyone know of a way of automating the process so that we can 'run a script' to do this for us, or another way at all? Thanks in advance.

That sounds like a job for variable data printing. There are any number of services that can do this for you.

We are printing the job as we are a commercial printers, but so far, we are the only place that has even figured out how to number it let alone print it according to our client - we are so nearly there with a seamless fast printing job but for the print process. Do you have any more ideas?

May be you should ask this in the scripting forum. This sound to me like you will need a scripting wizzard.
