Constant need to redraw screen

In the past I've had occasional issues with longer documents when scrolling down screens would reach one where the text displays as garbled. It would be fixed when scrolling past and back again.

But I guess with a recent update it has gotten a lot worse. Probably every 12 pages or so it happens. It's harmless but when you're nearing the final proof of a book it is very disconcerting.

Are there display settings within ID that can reduce/eliminate this?

ID 19.4 on OS 14.5 on a MacBookPro with M2 chip and external display.

Have you tried changing the InDesign Preferences and under GPU performance turn this off?

I typically have GPU performance disabled (no idea what good it is it's always been problematic)

Does it happen on the laptop display? Or just on the 2nd screen?

Have you tried making the 2nd screen your main display? Tried different resolutions?

What monitor is it? Have you reached out the the makers of the monitor (if it's only happening on that monitor)?
How is it connected? USB-C or HDMI or other cable? Is it through a junction like HUB that has USB/HDMI multiple sockets to connect to the Mac?
Can you connect directly without the hub?
Can you try different cables/methods/usb vs HDMI?

Can you change your screen refresh rate?
are there any options in the OSD menu on the monitor itself?

Sorry for all the questions - just trying to understand the full picture (pun intended).

So I have returned as the screen issues continue. I have GPU performance disabled.

My main display is an HP Z27. But the same issues seem to happen on the laptop display as well.

The laptop is connected to the HP display via a USB-C cable. There is no hub involved there (there is a USB hub connected to the HP but I can't imagine that is involved in this).

I can play with the display rates on the HP but, again, it's happen on the native Mac display as well.

I am getting artifacts like the blue ruled lines on the attached image. Another thing that happens is that the whole document will flash white for a second. Currently I'm doing design work but when I was working on a 325-page book, I was also getting text issues, like text not reflecting the edit until a second later, or until I do something else with the mouse, or scroll the screen.

Does it happen on your native Mac display when your external monitor is not connected to the Mac?

Yes, I have just verified that the phantom lines appear on the MacBook Pro screen with no external monitor. Haven't verified the flashing and the slow-to-redraw text. Nothing attached to the laptop except a hard drive and a keyboard, directly, no hub.
