Content Collector Tool

InDesign v17.2

iMac 24 M1

Tried using this tool today for the first time but the content panel isn't showing and instead there's a blue bracketed number next to the collector tool icon which goes up in number as new content gets selected. Know I'm missing something here, but can't see anything under Preferences nor under View>Extras>Hide/Show content grabber which, anyway, I've tried both to no avail.

Any thoughts, anyone, please?

The content panel should appear the moment you choose the Content Collector tool. Misbehaviors like that can usually be cleared up with a reset of preferences.

Cheers John. It was Preferences. Now deleted and the CCT works just fine. Too often I think it's me doing something wrong or failing to understand a new feature – new to me that is, as I hadn't ever used it.

Once again, many thanks for your help.
