Content fit to frame

No matter what option I choose, I can't get the photos I'm using to fit frame...

Right click on image and select fit to frame doesn't work

Under object option fitting, select fit to frame doesn't work

Auto fit to frame doesn't work

Any ideas before a rip into tech support????

Guys, I really appreciate all of your suggestions, BUT, I can't help but notice that all of the

suggestions offered are like interactions between IT Techs and useless to a novice user...

I see 100,000 people scratching their heads with wonder, what the hell is a IDML, INDD, PSD.. I know, they may not...

The photo files I used are from a created folder, created by me, that I have used in the past with no issues...

All images were sent to me from a museum in tif format via Dropbox... Images are all historical B & W which I convert

to jpeg after I colorize them. Each group of 48 images is in a separately created and labeled folder...

Folders that I have successfully used in the past were tried last night and they didn't work either.. I've tried changing

folder and file names, that didn't help... We tried creating with facing page option un-checked and that

somewhat filled the frame if the thumbnail was dropped in upper left corner, but still didn't allow us to fit to frame

forcing the need for centering the image to extend to bleed lines...

I've even tried cropping random images from the interweb for S & G and get the same results, it won't

fit to frame... Adobe admits that their are issues with the 2019 version for those using 32 bit Windows10 but they

don't know the extent of the issues... I doubt my issue is related to that because the same problem

is now on my previous versions even when uninstalled and reinstalled...

Thanks for your help in trying to find a fix guys!!!!!

I've got deadlines to meet for publications and don't have the extra hours to play with this,

simply put, I give up with Adobe, shopping for a replacement

In InDesign, when you choose Save As, you have two choices:

InDesign, which has an .INDD extension, and
InDesign Markup Language , which has the extension of .IDML. An An IDML file can be used as on one-time hand-off to open the file in an earlier version OR to clean corruption out of a document.

You may or may not see these extensions. The Operating System likes to hide them.

Images can be saved into several formats using imaging software, such as Photoshop and others. You are already familiar with JPEG (JPG) and TIFF (TIF).

PSD stands for Photoshop Document and you will get this when you choose Save As and select Photoshop as your file format.

Do you still have the 2018 version of InDesign on your system? If so, use it. If not, you might consider reinstalling it until Adobe comes out with a patch for the 2019 version. If you go in this direction, please let us advise you further on how to do this.

Does it happen only with that group of links? It occurs to me that the problem is not InDesign.

If you tried Mike's idea of making an IDML, and then a new INDD from it, and still have no results, and if you tried the to use the same Fitting options with the same set of images in a different document, and still doesn't work, but it works with other images, the it must be the links.

I have found issues in the past, with links that have postscript errors or are corrupted, specially when the files are PDFs, Illustrator files (Specially older or converted files), and occasionally, PSD and other image files.

I would try and convert the image using Photoshop, removing profiles, hidden layers and specially other layers that are not pixels (i.e. text, watermarks, etc) or create a flattened version to use as a link.

Tim W.: it almost sounds like the document is corrupt. Can you export to IDML and re-open the IDML and save-as to a new INDD file?

Hi Tim,

if you are using InDesign CC 2019 and you changed your preferences so that the new Content Aware Fit feature is enabled by default, then Content To Fit will not work while placing images. However, it should work after placing when you are working with the context menu for the fitting options.

Crashing InDesign while trying this is definitely not the norm.

So something may be corrupt with your document or your InDesign preferences or your cached data with InDesign.

To rule out document corruption just add a new document and try with that. If it's working without flaws you could try to get rid of document corruption of the other one by exporting it to IDML exchange format, open the IDML file as document in InDesign and save with a new name before testing further things.

In all other cases you could trash prefs and cached data or you have to uninstall and install InDesign again.

Preferable without migrating preferences from older versions.

I was on with Adobe tech support last night for hours and they couldn't give me answer either...

I allowed them to take control of my PC and they uninstalled and reinstalled, cleared preferences,

tried using the 2017 version and so on... NOTHING WORKED, same problem with them at the controls....

Project in question: 48 page photo book... Images already have the text included so it's just a matter of

placing them in the frame... Project is set as landscape, 11.5 by 8 inch, .125 bleed all 4 sides, facing pages...

(facing pages checked or unchecked didn't make any difference)

Every avenue available to include using the BRIDGE app was tried, made no difference....

If you draw a box on the page frame and add an image, the fit to frame options works....

That is not helping me, I need the images to be full frame or full page....

It worked just fine when I used it on my last book.... I'm now looking into changing to QuarkXpress which

is what my printer uses....

Hi Tim,

so you or Adobe Tech Support are thinking that your document is gone corrupt?
How long will it take to do a new one? 48 pages with about 48 frames for the same amount of images?

That should be rebuildable in under one hour, I think.

Can you share the document? I'd like to have a look.

Upload it to Dropbox or a similar service and share the link.
