Can anyone convert a .indt file (a brochure template) which I bought today so that it works with Indesign CS4? When I try to open it, it says missing plugin sharedcontent.rpln which I can't find.
Hi Andy,
you could ask the seller of that document to provide an IDML file. That could be opened in InDesign CS4 as well. With some consequences: A lot of features were added after InDesign CS4. And all the new features will not travel to CS4 when you open the IDML file.
See into this guide by James Wamser that is listing all the InDesign feature development:

Where did you buy the template? Did the seller say that InDesign CS4 was supported? InDesign CS4 dates back to 2008 so it's no surprise that it couldn't open a newer InDesign file format.

I bought the file from Adobe stock and could not find any compatibility information.

Adobe InDesign New Features Guide
This guide covers all the key features from InDesign 1.0 released on August 31, 1999
through the February 2020 release (version 15.0.2)
by James Wamser, Modified: March 4, 2020
Also ask your seller what's the version of InDesign your .indt file was made with.
Or check yourself. Rename your .indt file suffix to .indd and test with a script by Jongware that could be helpful ( don't know if it will run with InDEsign CS4, but you could try ) :

That's a shame! This information could be crucial. And now we know it is.
They also should offer an IDML file.

Adobe aren’t likely to do that. Their interest is having people pay to upgrade...

Hi Uwe, I have asked the author for an IDML version and if that fails, I can buy a CS6 perpetual licence for $400 which is a lot of money or subscribe to CC. I'll let you know.
Best wishes

Did someone contact you offering to sell you CS6 for $400? Warning, scammers may contact you privately pretending to be Adobe staff. Adobe will never send you a private message asking you to email an account that isn't @adobe.com, or use Skype. Adobe never ask you for their password. These scammers want your Adobe info, credit cards, your money and control of your computer, please take care.

And by the way, why would you think CS6 would open it... did scammers tell you this too?

The author of the template, Tom Sarraipo, made an IDML file which I can use and that was very decent of him. Thanks for all of your helpful comments.
