CR to other chapter files in same book

Contributor ,

I asked ChatGPT about this and it said it cannot be done. Which surprised me because it seems such a basic function;

I have split up my book into individual chapter files. Makes sense keeps file small and fast running l.

Now I want to insert a dynamic Cross reference from one chapter to another:

'Like for more info see "chapter 5, pg 245" ' ( inside the quotes is the CR to another chapter/file in the same book container.

Didn't Hellen Keller say "Don't Tell me in can't be done!"

But how?

Thanks

ChatGPT got it wrong. It's true that there isn't a chapter reference format in the pre-cooked samples, so you need to create your own format for chapter numbers:

Hi Suzzy:

Cross-reference (see below) is so flexible you can pinpoint the exact section within your chapter very easily. I use it all the time and love it. Open both documents in your book panel, then select Cross-reference in your new chapter:

Remember to update your cross reference numbering (press the three lines at the right top of the book panel) before sending to the printer, in case page numbers change and InD doesn't catch it (also see below).
