Create multiple dynamic QR codes?

I need some help with a HUGE order and I don't want to waste time for me or my customer. They need plain text QR codes with sequential numbers between 00001-10000 and I want to see if there is any way I can automate this in the same way data merging and setting page numbers can be automated. The customer already said that they're not interested in bar codes, so it has to be QR codes.

I saw a reddit post that was onto something, but I have no idea how they got to the point where they were (https://www.reddit.com/r/indesign/comments/1b3fdri/qr_codes_in_indesign_i_cant_get_multiple_records/).

I can't think of anything other than just editing every QR code by hand, but surely there has to be faster way.

InDesign's data merge feature can handle this. Generate the number list in Excel or the like, set up your document pages (of whatever size and so forth works for export to PNG or PDF, and run the merge.

I'm not a DM expert, but simple merges like this are fairly straightforward.. If you have questions about how to set it up, ask away and someone who knows will jump in. This should have all you need, though: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/data-merge.html

After some bizarre problems of my own (see other thread, or never mind), I confirmed this is an almost trivial operation for data merge. I'm attaching my data file, which should let you create your 10,000 codes by merging it — whether to individual pages, many-up on pages, with or without associated ID numbers, etc. all up to you and experimenting with Data Merge's options.

Editorial PS — those aren't dynamic QR codes. There's basically no such thing. 🙂

Note that it's the # on the field label (#Numbers) that tells DM to generate a QR code. You have no control over things like colors but you can control the size of the initial frame, which can be replicated across each page (for around 10-15 up layout) if you prefer. Or use 2 or 3 inch page sizes, which would allow easy export to JPG or PDF.
