Hello community, has anyone the same problem as me? When I create new document in InDesign for web, application opens 4 new documents with the same name (for example "unnamed-1") and size. It happens when the box "preview" is checked. once you uncheck the box, InDesign suddenly creates the file "unnamed-5".

Hi @katerinap2307659,

Thanks for sharing the screen recording. It really helps in understanding the issue.

Please try closing both InDesign and the Creative Cloud Desktop app first. Then, go ahead and rename the 'UXP' and 'CEP' folders to 'UXP.old' and 'CEP.old' in the following locations:

 - For UXP: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\UXP

For CEP:
 - C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\CEP
 - C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\CEP

Note: USERNAME with your username on the machine.

After renaming the folders, please relaunch InDesign and test the issue again to see if the problem persists.

Let me know how it goes, and I’ll continue to assist you from here.

Hi @katerinap2307659,

Thanks so much for bringing this up. I tested the issue on Windows 11 using InDesign versions 20.3, 20.0, and 19.5.3, but I wasn't able to reproduce the behavior you described.

To make sure I'm following the exact same steps, could you please share a short screen recording showing the issue on your end? That would really help in confirming the workflow.

In the meantime, I'll also test this on a Windows 10 setup and share an update shortly.

Abhishek

FWIW, I do not see this problem on the macOS side of things. In my studio, it is just the Windows side of life.

HI @katerinap2307659 ,

hm, once I had a similar problem. However, not with the New Document's Preview option.

When quitting InDesign a warning came up that an Untitled-1 or Untitled-2 document wasn't saved.

But I had no open documents. At least no documents with a layout window.

I'm on macOS 12.7.6 Monterey with a MacBook Pro (M1) from 2021.

Note: As a scripter I know that you can open or create documents without a layout window; invisible documents, if you like.

Ok, let's see if my German InDesign 2025 v20.3.0 on macOS will add more untitled documents than necessary while the preview option is checked. We have two options to test. The legacy New Document dialog and the new New Document dialog. Perhaps there, with the new New Document dialog, there is a bug?

Usually I use the legacy New Document dialog…

It's more compact.

A few minutes later:

[1] The legacy New Document dialog is working as expected.

[2] Also the new New Document dialog.

Perhaps a bug with the Windows version of InDesign 2025?

I am seeing this new bug on Windows 11, at InDesign 20.3. I installed the update just this morning.

That said, I have been telling students and clients for several years now to NOT turn on the New Document dialog box Preview button. It has been subtly buggy for many years. In my experience, every ~3rd document or so it will produce a new document with no guides and no ability to change that.

Now here we are in 20.3 and the work-around is still:

Do not turn on Preview in the New Document dialog box.

I never really understood why there is even a preview button for a New Document.

It's page size, columns, margins, bleeds. etc.

You should know this before even opening the document, for me, the Preview option for a new document is redundant.

OK, yes, this problem occurs from time to time, I've seen it a few times in previous versions, but now the error is there every time. I don't usually use this option, but it has happened. And if it is there, it should work and not shut down the whole program.

Resetting preferences didn't help.
