[CS6] Debug version startup speed

Dear all,

I guess I have a new top-time for the startup of Debug CS6. Do you have any tips how to speed up?

This is basically not acceptable to wait several minutes for every debug run.

Here is my environment description:

- VMWare 5 Win 7 x64 (2 processors, 4096MB ram for the machine)

- the host is 2x2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon with 14GB 800MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM running Mountain Lion

- everything else runs OK in the windows machine, once indesign is started it runs smoothly OK!

- this is not only the Debug build; Release builds can be pain also, but they don't show the embarassing timers.

- InCopy suffers the same.

Any ideas?

I replaced Mac Pro Early 2008 with 2x3Ghz with iMac 2.7 i7 3.4Ghz with fusion drive and it is much faster than the old Mac Pro

On both i've been using VM Fusion 5. I belive that SSD should be even faster.

Hi and thank you for your answer,

upgrading my HW was the right way to go!

Now even idccdbg rocks from virtual machine.

Have you considered dropping VMWare ? A cheap PC will most likely be faster. InDesign does a lot of different things when it starts up and  find that a plug-in has changed ..

Thanks for your answer.

Yes in my previous project, a PC was the answer. However now, when working in multiproject environment, VMWare is the only way how to have everything organized. The nice part is that you can clone the machines and *share* with Windows users. Plus, after I upgraded to ssd retina mbpro, everything is fast, even the debug version with memory tracker on and running in a VM.

I recommend to everyone who doesn't want to loose time when waiting for ID Debug to startup/shutdown, to get the latest HW.

Hi,

For the non-ui stuff we use InDesign Server (developer edition) to debug/test our plugin.
