Custom Translation Solutions?

Looking for some solutions to our translation needs here, some things I'm trying to accomplish:

  • Have a searchable database of existing translation.
  • Have some sort of custom dictionaries in InDesign that let the designer know this line of copy has available translation from the database.
  • Perhaps be able to one click translate individual text boxes based on existing translation from the database. But not every text box, many materials are bilingual. Sizing is also an issue, as English / Spanish can be designed with different type treatments, but English / French must have the same type treatments.
  • Not looking for a service for translation, company has existing translators and isn't willing to move from them.

Our biggest issue currently is redundancy vs. time. When completing translation our design team will often just get the whole document translated, even if many of the lines were translated previously. This has a cost attached to it, and also has us doing translations in waves every season. We get a ton of translation done here, in Spanish and French. Just looking for ways to organize and automate the process.

Well thanks for all the answers, though a few of them seem a bit sales pitchy. Not looking for a premium service, only a database solution that potentially has InDesign integration.

    Hi,

As the developer of Translate | Id-Extras.com I believe parts of this system could be adapted to provide automatic translation of text that you have translated previously.

Feel free to email: admin [at] id-extras.com

    Thanks,

    Ariel

Hello, it's not really what you are looking for but maybe Redokun can be a part of the solution. Or, maybe Loic.Aigon has the answer or is the the answer.

    Redokun : https://redokun.com/

I would have thought of redokun too but needs here seem a little bit different. Our friend seems to look for a helper for translators and there are many ways to do this. First of all, I would googloo it because something may already exists but in case not, then you could think of a script or an extension. Basic requests to database but the painpoint here is that the reference text would need some consistency. What about special characters, typos and many hiccups that may return no results from DB…

I guess it would be the place for some ML program here.

Anyway, i would be thrilled to work on that project but no more time for side projects. But some can be found for paid for ones
