Data merge does not reset section/page numbers

Apols - although I've been using ID for several years, this one has me stumped! Am possibly attempting the impossible or doing something silly!

I have a four page spread document. Each page as currently configured has a Section prefix , with numbering starting at one (see image below).

I would like to datamerge to this doc, generating multiple n page spreads numbered EG

Front1, Proof1, Image1, Digital1

Front2, Proof2, Image2, Digital2

...and then be able to merge to PDF - for example - only the 'Proof' section pages.

However, when I merge, the merge creates (see image below):

Front1, Proof1, Image1, Digital1

Digital2, Digital3, Digital4, Digital5

I've tried various configurations, eg having single pages rather than spreads etc, but the result is always the same.

Since my requirement is to be able to generate a PDF of, eg, all the Proof pages in the merged document, or all the Image pages, I'm guessing that numbering/sections is not the best way to go about this? Or am I doing something wrong?

Any ideas hugely appreciated!

I don't think this is going to work. But it's difficult to setup here from scratch to test.

Have you got a sample file we could possibly try?
