Working on the price catalog for approximately 2000s items from the excel sheet. Is there a feature that would link InDesign to a spreadsheet or comma delimited file to pull in pricing based on an item number(like vlookup)?
Em Software was already mentioned.

No. Only through script. What platform - PC or Mac?

I would look at database plug-ins such as Em software, 65-bit software,, teacup software, and others. They will do what you want and can even hook directly into the main database if desired.

If it's one time job and simple price update - custom script will be much cheaper.

Hello David, Do you know of any newer software plugin's? These seem very outdated, or maybe it'a just all of their Tutorial videos are old. I'm currently exploring Catalog data merge and stubbled upon this thread.

I'm assuming they are updated but Em Software is the only one listing the current ID version (2022, not 2023 yet).
I did notice that 65bit's YouTube demos are about 8 years old but I assume the process hasn't changed much.

Thanks David. I will contact Emsoftware. This is really helpful. I'm kind of amazed that there's not more information on this solve. Everyone must be holding tight to their workflow secrets. LOL.

If you are on Mac then give MyDataMerge a try. Does a pretty good job, is up to date and we use it for years

I think it is possible to place xml after converting excel data to xml.
Look it up in InDesign and XML.
