Data merge with Facing Pages

How do I create a merged document magazine-style, facing pages… and Data Merge? I've done dozens of tests, and it's always duplicating the parents, instead of alternating them 😞

Correct answer Colin Flashman

I wrote an article some time ago about this on my blog, the title is Facing Page Data Merge – it IS Possible

If the answer wasn't in my post, perhaps it might be on my blog at colecandoo!

Thanks, Colin! I actually read your article yesterday, and that solution worked – two different single masters, turned to facing pages after merged. And I was happy with that, problem solved and all.
BUT… After that, I started the process all over again, and it didn´t work again… It's always using only one of the masters on all pages, instead of alternating them. I'll try again today, after a night's sleep.

Anyway, this process also rises other problems… Creating a new document from scratch, all settings like layout margins and baseline grid are lost. So this is not perfect, and Adobe should have solved it a long time ago.
(I even tried to download your files)

Oh man 😞
OK, your files were really helpfull, and now I know I'm not doing anything "wrong".

The problem seems to be that my needs are not supported by the Indd features…

I need a spread with two different layouts/margins side by side, like yours; BUT the records are the same for both pages. Like this, see? Because I must have a few hundred sheets, one on each page, side by side. That's why on all my tests, it's allways duplicating the records, instead of alternating them.

Is this impossible?

This is my goal: same records, same fields, same layout (but mirrored). Consecutive pages.
