Device Independent Postscript file doesn't let me choose paper size or output options

I'm trying to output pre-separated PDFs from InDesign CS6 (Mac OS 10.8). My only output options are a laser printer that can't actually produce 2-page spreads on one document, or a device independent postscript file for which all output options are grayed out.

I used to do all this from an earlier version of InDesign using the Adobe PDF plugin as the PPD, with Acrobat Pro was installed, but I have the latest version of Acrobat Pro, and that no longer works.

(If you must know 'why the pre-separated PDFs': the pressman at the company who prints our paper has never been able to figure out the settings on his RIP to spare me this endless nonsense.)

You can get the Adobe 9 PPD in InDesign CS6 Print option but not sure will it work on Mac 10.8, Follow the below steps and then check :-

    1. Quit InDesign.

    2. Navigate to /Applications/Adobe Indesign CS5/Presets/.

    3. Within the Presets", folder Create a folder called PPDs (the folder name is case-sensitive).

    4. Control-click the following link and choose Save Link As to download the Acrobat 9 PPD:

    5. Place a copy of the downloaded PPD into the folder you created in step 3.

You can also download the Acrobat PPD directly from Adobe who walk you through the steps:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/indesign/kb/add-acrobat-ppd.html
It continues to work in InDesign CC 2019.

I'm happy to see that Adobe finally realized that they needed a HelpX description and link to document that useful feature for older workflows! It's required a "secret handshake" (usually hearing about it from a user here on the InDesign forum) for people do know how to do it.

I've bookmarked that link for future reference.

MODERATORS: Please don't lock this thread. It's useful and up-to-date information. It needs to be kept alive to document that it will still work after version and OS changes in the future. Thanks!

This does not seem to work with the latest update to InDesign 2017. I"ve had installed the last two years and have had no problem making saddlestitch print-ready pdfs. but now after the update, it doesn't work.

I have no problem putting PPD files in InDesign CC 2017 using Sierra. Check the spelling of the PPDs folder. I used the steps described at the top of this discussion:

Yah, I did several times. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Oh well.

Was working fine for me when I posted earlier today, but you can try Rob Day's link in post # 2 of this thread: Print booklet to post script does not work | Adobe Community
