@Abhishek Rao

Thanks for your reply.

Another bug related to changing type engine is not resolved even in 19.5 and I posted a comment:

An interesting behaviour. I downloaded @sak95456465 Indesign document, when I exported it to PDF, I had the missing diacritics issue just like you, however, I deleted the diacritics, and reinstated them and I went to add random ones, then exported it to PDF, the result was good, all the diacritics showed up as intended.

Could be the text was originally imported from MS. Word or other word processing application which caused this bug to appear! It is an InDesign bug non the less.

Wiered, I downloaded a fresh copy of @sak95456465 Indesign document, I yet again deleted the diacritics, re-typed them again then exported to PDF, the diacritics didn't appear in the PDF!

Hi @sak95456465 and @Zaid Al Hilali,

Thank you both for your detailed observations and for continuing to test and share insights around the diacritics omission issue.

The product team has confirmed that this issue is addressed in the latest version InDesign 20.3.1. Could you please update to v20.3.1 and re-test your document to confirm whether the diacritics are now correctly retained in the exported PDF?

Your confirmation will help us validate the fix from multiple user scenarios. If the issue still persists, I'll escalate it immediately for further investigation.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Abhishek

Hi @Zaid Al Hilali,

Thanks so much for confirming. To help me escalate this further with the product team, could you please share a short screen recording demonstrating how the issue is still reproducing on your end? This will help us understand the exact scenario and ensure that it's addressed correctly.

Looking forward to your recording so we can take this forward promptly.

Hi Abhishek, the result is inconsistent. See the screen recording here to see that I had to delete the last letter and its diacritic, then retype both again so that it would appear in the PDF.

In my first attempt as displayed in the attached video, I concentrated on the last word of the third row of the document قوچانِ

The diacritic was there already, upon exporting to PDF, the diacritic disappears ie. it doesn't show in the PDF. On the second attempt as shown in the video, I deleted both the diacritic and las character, then re-typed both. This time around, exported the document to PDF and all went well.

Hi @Zaid Al Hilali and @sak95456465,

Thanks again for your continued collaboration and the detailed screen recording, Zaid, it's incredibly helpful for the team.

I've reached out to the product team, and they've confirmed that this issue has been addressed in the upcoming InDesign 20.4 release, which is currently available as the latest Pre-release build.

If you have access to the Pre-release program, I highly recommend testing this issue in the 20.4 build to confirm the fix on your end.
If you're not yet part of the Pre-release program, you can request access by following these links:

Please let me know once you've had a chance to test, or if you need any assistance getting set up with the Pre-release access. Your feedback is vital to ensuring this issue is fully resolved.

Looking forward to your update!

Abhishek

With regards to the Beta version, I installed the available beta from the Adobe CC desktop application as shown below. I downloaded a fresh copy of @sak95456465 Indesign document. Well the same issue when exporting to PDF, the diacritic didn't appear in the PDF. After going back to the InDesign document, I deleted, then retyped the diacritic, exprted it to PDF, this time the diacritics appeared!

Note. Above mentioned beta is not the one @Abhishek Rao referred to 20.4

@Abhishek Rao  @Zaid Al Hilali سلام علیکم  زید الهلالی

It seems If someone type text in version maybe 19 or 20 by enabling harfbuzz this inconsistency will begin and If you start typing from scratch in new version of indesign may be there is no problem with or whitout harfbuzz. the big problem is If somone send file to me I don't know on what condition he or she typed arabic text. removing harfbuzz from text is final solution. thanks

Hi @sak95456465,

Thanks again for your continued testing and updates.

I wanted to clarify that the Pre-release build and the Beta build are not the same. The Pre-release version is a more refined build provided to selected users through Adobe's Pre-release program (it includes fixes that are ready for broader testing before public release). The Beta build, on the other hand, may not always contain the latest fixes and is usually earlier in development.

The product team has confirmed that the fix for the diacritics issue is available in the InDesign 20.4 Pre-release build, which is set to roll out publicly soon.

If you can, please test one of your older files (where the issue originally appeared) in the 20.4 Pre-release version (link shared in earlier response) and let us know the observation. This will help us confirm that the issue is resolved across legacy file scenarios as well.

Looking forward to update.

Abhishek

@sak95456465   وعليكم السلام ورحمة الله

Sorry it took me so long to ansewr.

@Abhishek Rao @Anubhav M I updated my InDesign to the latest v. 20.4.1, and the issue is still there. I copied the text from @sak95456465 InDesign document, I pasted it in a fresh document, exported it to PDF, the issue is still there. Diacritics disapear from the text.

Now, it could be the text that came from an outside source such as MS. Word or any other that carried some issues with it into InDesign, I mean I work with InDesign mostly in Arabic and I do type diacritics, but this problem doesn't show on my documents. I will keep an eye on the matter and will report back.

Note. Changing the font, style, leading, kashida, and tracking for example doesn't fix the problem. I believe the issue is in the text engine of InDesign.

Hi @sak95456465 & @Zaid Al Hilali,

Thank you so much for your detailed explanation and for continuing to share updates. I really appreciate your patience.

I tested this in the Arabic version of InDesign using the text you shared, like "(آشوبِ ) will export (آشوب )", and I got the correct result in the exported PDF. You can see the screenshots below from InDesign 20.4.1 and the resulting PDF. For the composer, I used Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer.
References: (InDesign)

(Acrobat)

Since you mentioned that you're still experiencing the issue, could you please share a short screen recording showing the problem happening on your side using version 20.4.1? Additionally, if possible, please also share a new sample file where this is happening. This will help us check more closely and escalate further if needed.

Looking forward to your update so we can get this sorted together!

Abhishek
