Question

Downloading the lesson files

I download the lesson files to my File Explorer Folder on my computer per Peachpit instructions. There I can see all the numbered lesson files on my computer. When I open up the InDesign software and click on Open the lesson files do not appear? Can anybody help me?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Marcel:

After I've extracted the file and open the lesson files on the InDesign software only the InDesign doc is visable.

That's normal on Windows. When you choose File > Open, Windows only shows the files that can be opened by InDesign (i.e., the files with the .indd extensions.) This is because you can't open .jpgs, .pngs, .psds, etc. in InDesign. To access them, you will need to use File > Place as you will learn in Lesson 3.

There are several InDesign instructors who volunteer on this forum and teach from that workbook. If you get stuck, just start a new thread with the question and include the page number, step number and a screen shot. We will be able to get you back on track.

Is this the Adobe InDesign Classroom in a Book lesson files? You need to unzip them. In Windows, you an open a zipped folder to look at it—which makes my students think that the folder is unzipped—but you cannot access the files through InDesign (or the linked graphics) until you actually right click and unzip the folder.

Yes, InDesign Classroom. After I've extracted the file and open the lesson files on the InDesign software only the InDesign doc is visable. On the lower right it automatically says All Readable Files. If I click on the drop down menu and go to All Files only then are all the files in the folder visable. For example, the lesson file 2 has the InDesign Start and End file. The Edibles, Dinning Room, Herbs and PansySalad don't show until I click on All Files.
I think it's all figured out. Thanks so much for taking the time to help!!
I may have one more question later tomorrow about how to save all the work and submit it? Doing all this for the first time and feeling a bit confused.
Thanks again!

Marcel
