Drop cap nested style over applied

Enthusiast ,

I have made a nested drop cap style for a single letter (count it, one), using a decorative font, for certain paragraphs in a magazine. For some reason when it's applied the first character of the paragraph is the full drop cap in the correct font, but the second character in the word is also the decorative font — though not a drop cap. I've checked the nested style; it should apply to only one character. Should I delete it and start over?

Sorry, clear please one moment. Did you set Drop Cap AND Nested Style with the same Character Style, or only Drop Cap, or only Nested Style? If the first then that's why you have 2 characters decorated.

Hi,

Can you check if the paragraph style applied on that paragraph has no overrides?

None, as far as I can tell. I made it into basic paragraph before applying the style, and checked the style again. One character only in the style, two in the styled text.

If your style definition says one character, then @amaarora is most likely correct. Try removing overrides from the paragraph to see if that helps.

If not, go the the Character Styles panel, select the entire paragraph, and click None for the Character style. That's another possibility.

If neither works, post a screen shot with your paragraph and the style definition.

I'm in agreement that there is an issue with an override.

Select the paragraph and Alt/Opt click on [None] in the Character Styles Panel, and then Alt/Opt click on Body or [Basic Paragraph] in the Paragraph Styles panel to remove all overrides. Then if your character style is assigned via Drop Caps & Nested Styles, a single click to assign the Paragraph style will take of it.

Remove all formatting:

Set up Drop Cap Character Style within the Paragraph Style:

One click to assign the paragraph tag with the Drop Cap Style:
