Dupe Images to new layer and a few other things

Wondering if this is possible.

I was aked if there was a way to export a PDF that would be colour on screen and Grayscale when output.

My solution was:

1. Duplicate the images layer.

Problem: Images may not be on layer, so is it possible to move all images onto a layer?

2. Make all images on the top layer into Buttons- then turn off the ability to Print Buttons in the PDF.

Problem: this is a manual process

3. All images on the layer beneath would become grayscale

Problem: Have to manually make all images grayscale - So is it possible to relink just that layer of images to another folder containing the grayscale images?

Basically the PDF will be viewed in colour, then output as grayscale images.

Is it possible. Or is there an easier way?

do the color to greyscale convertion in Acrobat.
What you need is a reliable greyscale ICC profile (ask your friendly printer). You can do the transformation in Acrobat Pro under:
"Advanced / Print Production / Convert Colors…"

Be forewarned, since this is an automatic process image quality will be inferior in comparision with converting in PhotoShop where you can use various  methods on individual basis to maintain quality of tonal range.

Well this is to go to people that don't know Acrobat.

They want to have the Images in colour in acrobat.

But they want it to print grayscale.

I'd rather have the grayscale under the photo, as I can adjust it correctly for that. Then when the PDF prints, because the colour images are buttons set to non-print, only the grayscale prints.

Does that make sense?
