Hello, my question is about ebook and epub files. I would like to know if there is and how to lock a file so that it can be read by a certain number of readers.

You're talking about DRM — digital rights management — which is a feature of some EPUB creation tools and distribution platforms. There is nothing in the Adobe spectrum, including InDesign, that creates or manages document rights in this manner. DRM is a "post creation" feature implemented at the publication or distribution stage.

Search for "EPUB DRM" to get a start on the topic and resources.

What you will find, though, among the references and services that apply and manage DRM, is an endless list of resources and sevices that remove — unlock — DRM.

E-book security is about 90% 'honor system' and there's not much honor out there, as much of the community feels it's their right to convert and redistribute books. About the only strong system is Amazon's Kindle, with all the downsides it brings.
