Question

Eliminating overset text errors?

I am continuing to get overset text errors in each text box I add to indesign can anyone tell me is there a preference setting or some other issues that could be causing thiserror. I have looked at all the data available online relative to fixing the error and been unable to correct it. All my text has the red plus box associated with it yet when I do the edit text function there is no extra text. Thanks for help.

Resizing your font, leading and or spacing.  the other option is you start a new column or page.

You have to remove all empty enters and spaces, you will not have overset text if no overset text, from type> show hidden character, so you can remove them.. you will find spaces (hiddin characters) down on each text box.

Hi Ptaroli,

can you still see the issue if you move the text frame to the pasteboard so that the frame edges do not touch the page?

If not: Then the text inside the frame is formatted to align with the document's baseline grid.

With the text frame selected: Change that in the Properties panel if you open additional options under Paragraph, in the Paragraph panel or with the Paragraph Styles panel if you edit the applied paragraph style.

Make a document with a sample frame available where you see the issue.

Put it on Dropbox or a similar service and post the download link.

Thanks,

And check the Story Editor.

If the text is too wide for the frame for some reason it will continue to be overset no matter how many frames you add. Reasons for text being too wide are various, but common causes are long strings with No Break applied (some users mistake No Break for prohibiting hyphenation), use of non-breaking spaces combined with no hyphenation, frame insets that are too wide.

Also you can see (and correct) overset text indicated if you select the text frame and go to:

Edit > Edit in Story Editor. (Cmd/Ctrl + Y)

Try turning on hidden characters - sometimes the overset is spaces and/or paragraph returns
