Hi,

 

Is there any difference betweem ellipse and ellipse frame in placing an image on it?

 

I see no difference.

The "Ellipse Frame Tool" is a graphic frame denoted by the X in the frame. This frame is meant for graphics to be placed within them.

 

The "Ellipse Tool" is for drawing shapes, defined as "unassigned" frames. If you want to draw a ellipse shape as a background object with no graphics or text within, you'd use this tool.

 

Read more about the difference between InDesign frames here. Frames can be converted between Text, Graphic, and Unassigned as needed.

The Elipse standard has no 'fill', and will have a line of 1 pt. But you can place an image in both 😉
