I have a rather large document I need to translate from English to Chinese. I can use Google Translator to copy and paste from my file the English copy to Chinese, then copy and paste the Chinese translation back into my InDesign file. But that will take far too long for an almost 300 page document.
Is it possible to simply select a Chinese font in InDesign and automatically translate the English text? I've changed the settings on my iMac, so I can view Chinese characters, but only if I copy and paste it already translated from a different source. Sorry if this sounds confusing.
TIA

If you need Chinese translation for publication (online or in print), do not rely on any automated system to get it done. At best, the sense of the text will come across, but with laughable grammar and usage in the new language. At worst, it will be disastrously mistranslated.
For this sort of work, hire a human translator. (Some of these services will, for an extra free, do the translation directly in your InDesign document so you don't have to do any copy-and-paste)

I guess that means InDesign doesn't automatically do the translations on the fly. I figured that would be too easy.
Thanks

The translation that you get from Google translate is not going to be sufficient for the kind of job you are describing. Meaningful translation requires understanding the meaning of whole sentences, and restating the thought in the new language. There is no machine translation currently in existence that can do that.
Only a live person with a deep understanding of both languages can.

Thanks. Looks like I'll be needing a translator.
