Hi Indesign!
I have some trouble with datamerge.
I have tried with both a "csv" file and a txt" file
- but InDesign merge these letters completely wrong ??
In our country we use these letter in addition to the english letters:
á, í, ú,ó, ú, æ, ø, ð
And when I datamerge some names with these letters in InDesign, the program merge these letters in this way:
the letter "ð" becomes "√∞"
the letter "ú" becomes "√∫"
the letter "á" becomes "√≥"
the letter "ø" becomes "√Π"
the letter "í" becomes "√≠"
the letter "æ" becomes "√¶"
the letter "ó" becomes "√≥
So if I datamerge the name: "Símun", it becames like this in InDesign "S√≠mun"
- if I datamerge the name: "Tórbjørn", it becames like this in InDesign "T√≥rbj√Πrn"
- if I datamerge the name: "Særa", it becames like this in InDesign "S√¶ra"
So what shall I do with this problem?
I should datamerge 500 names last week with the letter we use here, but I could't use it?? I have tried several fonts, but that doesn't help?
- So what shall I do??
I have a lot of file, where I have to datamerge names.
I have done a lot of datemerge with numbers when doing tickets, etc. and there I have no problem, - this works GREAT!
Could somebody help me?
Thank you so much!!
I found the problem. I had first to save it as UTF-16. Then open it again in TextEdit, and then save it again. And after that; - when I merge it with InDesingn I had to take the TextEdit file and THEN IT WORKS!!!!! JUBIII !!
We we use this letter every day in our country , and this letters is "NOT GLYPHS" it is usally letters , as they use in Icelands, France and so on..... . -
Thanks a lot !!!!

I would first make sure that the font you are using in InDesign to format the content that you're bringing in via data merge supports those characters. You'll definitely want to ensure that the font is an OpenType font and make sure that that font contains the characters you are trying to use. You can check this in the Glyphs panel (Type > Glyphs) with the font you are using selected at the bottom of the panel. In addition, make sure that when you save your .csv or .txt file, that you are using UTF-8 or UTF-16 encoding.

Every character in a font is a "glpyh", even "A" and "3". Just saying... the Glyphs panel doesn't mean that Glyphs are only strange characters, it is a of getting things not on your keyboard.

I wasn't insinuating that glyphs were only strange characters (although they actually are glyphs). Go back and re-read my post. The point of opening the Glyphs panel was to have the OP make sure that the glyphs they were trying to use existed in the font they were using.

I understand that Chad, I was responding to the original posters statement "this letters is "NOT GLYPHS" it is usally letters , "
