Hi @molinari,

Thank you for reaching out and reporting the issue. Would you mind telling us if it's happening with all files you publish or with this specific file only? Would you mind trying the steps suggested in this post: https://adobe.ly/46mwUke and see if that helps?

I am also keeping the discussion open for our experts who might have more suggestions to share with you.

Thanks,

Harshika

Your info is brief but I believe this is caused by setting the TOC type to "None" in the export menu. This generates an empty TOC structure, which is of no consequence but some validators don't like it.

Set the menu type to "File Name" and the error should disappear.

I rarely if ever upload to Apple. (I rarely ever upload to any of the EPUB vendors, because the truth is that Kindle covers about 90% of any given market with far greater ease and reliability. I've found little value in optimizing an EPUB and trudging through each vendor's idea of perfection — all different — just to place works where... well, frankly, I've never sold a copy of anything.)

But, I have run into just this problem with KDP. It's not really a format or technical problem; the content validator — the steps at actual acceptance of content and layout, not the technical bits of the file — is finding fault with what you wrote in the metadata. Review everything about the cover to make sure you haven't misspelled anything, including things like American/English variants.

And in the end, getting these bots to recognize something perfectly valid but somehow triggering their rules can be impossible. I had one book (the one below!) that mentioned, on the back cover blurb of the paperback, that it was also available in a Kindle edition. It triggered a bot-AI-auto error that "cover copy mis-identifies the edition type." I battled KDP for two weeks on that and finally just gave up and removed the blurb. (Which, by the way, had been passed on two prior editions!)

With luck, it's just a simple typo in your cover content or metadata. Check back if none of that seems to be the case, and we'll try something else.
