Every time I reinstall ID, the shortcuts set for the scripts are lost.

If the script is still there and the name hasn't changed, the shortcuts should remain.

It wastes a lot of time to reset them every time, and they can't be migrated.

 It's a bit unscientific.

Is there a solution for this.

Thank you.

Same here, that's why I am using autohotkey to run scripts outside of indesign.

Windows OS.

Yes, there's a longstanding bug where keyboard shortcuts assigned to scripts can get lost for no apparent reason. There was a discussion about it months ago.

Earlier suggestions in this thread to backup and restore the Keyboard Shortcuts file may help (I never tried it.)

Take care to backup your en_US folder where nearly all your settings and customizations live.

Shortcut sets are .indk file extensions and are automatically stored here:
[macOS] Users/UserName/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version 20.0/en_US/InDesign Shortcut Sets
[Win 10/11] Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\InDesign\Version 20.0\en_US\InDesign Shortcut Sets

After a reinstall, you might have to copynpaste the custom keyboard shortcuts file back into this folder location. You might then have to go to Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts, and choose your custom-named shortcut set to get it going again.

Also, get to know File > User Settings > Import/Export User Settings

and another feature that is similar:

Edit > Migrate Previous Local Settings

Both of these copy customizations like custom Keyboard Shortcuts and can help you get back to a nicely-customized InDesign faster after a re-install or an upgrade.

@Mike Witherell

"en_US" depends on the language selected during installation.

What do you mean by "shortcut" ?

Can you be more specific how do you use those "shortcuts"?
