Hi community. I've been trying to export an Indesign file into a PDF but everytime, some text happens to turn into outlined text. I really need to keep it as live text so I can select it later when opening the file on Adobe Reader. Do any of you guys know the right preset to do this or has any tip?

Hi @Irene362136612te1 , Set the Export Compatibility to Acrobat 5 or higher:

Second this suggestion. If you still have outline type with PDF 1.4 or higher, it's not happening in InDesign.

Put the text on a higher layer or higher in the stacking order. That will prevent the text from rasterizing due to transparency.

Also, check your Transparency Flattener Preset Options:

You can see what text is impacted with the Flattener Preview panel.

Great explanation thanks, but this doesn't seem to be the problem since the document has only text, no transparencies or anything, and everything is in the same layer. Also the box is unchecked for this text. I think is just a weird glitch but it's awful for me.

Did the Flattener Preview show anything in InDesign?

Acrobat has a Flattener Preview too, what does it show?

Is it possible it was run through an preflight action in Acrobat?

@Irene362136612te1

Only some texts? Do you have any transparency effects applied to nearby objects - like shadow?

What are your PDF Export settings?

Only random texts from the document. I've tried several PDF Export settings and the problem keeps on happening

There is no PDF preset that turns live text in an InDesign file to outlined text. If you get outlined text, it's certainly because the text is outlined In your inDesign file.

Can you post screenshot of the text in the InDesign file?

Not entirely true - when exporting with older PDF standards, when there is an object with transparency over the text - text will be outlined.

Old trick back in the days to export PDFs with outlined texts was to cover pages with 0.1% transparent rectangle.

Yes, I know that but who still uses this trick?
