Exported JPEG from Indesign are grainy and/or blurry

The pixel dimension of an exported JPEG depends on the InDesign page dimensions and the PPI resolution you choose in the JPEG export dialog. If your page is 11" x 8.5" and you set your rulers to Pixels the page dimension will be 792px x 612px. An export using 72ppi will produce a JPEG with the same pixel dimensions. You could double the PPI on export and export a 1584px x 1224px JPEG.

You can do a search and find the maximum allowed pixel dimensions for Facebook pages. For example

If you are designing a page for a specific FB usage, setup the page for web intent to the desired FB pixel dimensions and export at the default 72ppi. So an Event Image might be this:

Do you have any suggestions as to how many ppi to set it at?  I am trying to format it for a FB post, and have been struggling to get it correct.

You will have to use the size and PPI that facebook asks for. The blurring will be there in any case, but you can help make it less noticeable by

1) using a san serif font

2) using a bolder font and

3) making the smallest text larger

Thanks for reaching out. You can refer to the below points while exporting the file as JPEG or PNG, for Quality, choose from a range of options that determine the trade-off between file compression (smaller file size) and image quality:

• Maximum includes all available high-resolution image data in the exported file and requires the most disk space. Choose this option if the file will be printed on a high‑resolution output device.
• Low includes only screen-resolution versions (72 dpi) of placed bitmap images in the exported file. Choose this option if the file will be displayed onscreen only.
• Medium and High include more image data than Low, but use varying levels of compression to reduce file size.

At that dimension and 72 ppi, there is no way to keep the text from being blurry. There are only a certain number of pixels to work with.
