Exporting InDesign Animations for Social Media

I recently created a few animations for our social media channels using InDesign. I've been asked to provide them as .mov files. I have all the Creative Cloud apps available to me and I still can't figure out how to convert it. I realize after reading other discussions on this that you shouldn't use InDesign for these types of animations. Seems like there must be a solution out there. Thank you in advance.

I second Bob's original answer.

I've tried a simple bouncing ball from InDesign using the Animate panel, saved as both .fla and .swf and tried to open/import into Animate CC only to be constantly frustrated. I had limited success with exporting a swf and then playing in an html browser that had the flash player plug-in installed... but ultimately it was 90 minutes of my evening I won't get back.

So far as screen capture software goes, I'm running Screenflow on my Mac and use it to make my Youtube videos. If you're on a Mac, there is screen capture software built in with quicktime (even though it is a player, it does have the option of doing screen captures) but in my experience, I've found that quicktime's capture is choppy and horrible, whereas Screenflow's capture is awesome.

If the answer wasn't in my post, perhaps it might be on my blog at colecandoo!

While I was able to record it in Quicktime, there is some cropping on the top and sides that needs to be done. I sent it along to our videographer to see what he could do. I didn't want to download any converters because 1) our firewalls are tight and 2) I won't be wasting my time in InDesign to create an animation. Sheesh, this was one of my goals for last year and it turned out to be a nightmare. This year I will be signing up for training to learn how to do animations in the right Adobe program

...and our videographer just got back and said he could crop it. Win

Have a Try with Animate CC (HTML5 + Video + GIF Export) or Adobe Spark…

Have a look at Adobe Animate — it comes as part of the Creative Cloud Suite, or as a separate application. Try the trial version to see.

Derek, the animations are already done in ID. The OP just needs a way to turn them into an MOV file.

But to hijack your old saying Bob, about using a screwdriver as a hammer.

The easiest way is to export to Publish Online and use a screen capture.

Thank you Bob. Is there a screen capture app or program you could recommend? I'm getting lazy, too much research on too many things the last few days

Snagit will probably do the job. There’s a trial version available.
